Process Post 11 – Transmedia

I haven’t come across the notion of Transmedia until just today. I knew of multimedia, but not Transmedia. It does seem like there is a distinct difference between the two though. Multimedia being the same story/content on different platforms, whereas transmedia is a different story/content (although still belonging to the same universe/world) on different platforms.

In the context of Pokemon as described in https://kevinbrittenylauren.wordpress.com/2013/11/21/pokemon-as-transmedia-storytelling/, it makes sense for a franchise such as Pokemon to use different mediums such as card games, video cards, tv shows, books, movies, and so on. However, I don’t think the same mediums would work very well in the context of this blog.

For the sake of this blog, I think the best platform to use as the first step in expanding to transmedia would be TikTok, Youtube shorts, or Instagram reels. The blog itself already contains a wealth of information, so it would make sense for the next platform to deviate from this. With short form video format, it should make content more accessible and consumable, while being able to reference back to the blog to provide more detailed breakdowns.

Beyond that, another possible medium could include something like infographics that can be easily shared. That would make it easy to post on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. That way, each medium has a different purpose. Blog for detailed breakdowns, shorts for easily consumable, yet informational media, and infographics for easily sharable informational. Each medium targets different platforms.
