One Hour in Osaka: Uncle Rikuro & Horai 551

I loved my time in Osaka, and I wish I could’ve spent more time there! But in case you only have enough time for one hour in Osaka, you have to try out these two Osaka exclusive places!

They’re both located in Shin-Osaka station, which is Osaka’s Shinkansen station. For each store, they have a location inside and also outside of the ticket gates! These are very popular and locals often purchase them for friends and family as gifts when traveling to/from Osaka!

Also, you might be wondering, why is this post titled “One Hour in Osaka?” Well, that’s because these stores are so popular, you might be in line for at least 15 minutes!

Uncle Rikuro

Uncle Rikuro Cheesecake

Uncle Rikuro is the original Japanese Cheesecake! Although we have Uncle Tetsu here in Vancouver, it just isn’t the same! Uncle Tetsu was founded in 1990 and has locations all over the globe, but Uncle Rikuro was founded in 1956 and has remained in Osaka ever since!

Uncle Rikuro makes their souffle cheesecake with raisins, while Uncle Tetsu doesn’t. Some might not like raisins, and well… that’s their loss! I find that Uncle Rikuro’s cheesecakes have a softer and fluffier feel compared to Uncle Tetsu.

It’s super worth it to give it a try!

Horai 551

Horai is a really popular steamed meat bun chain in Osaka! All of their steamed buns are handmade in store, so each order comes with a fresh batch!

Their filling is super yummy and the bun itself is soft, yet tender! They also have other products such as gyoza and dumplings, but they all use the same filling, so you might as well just get their buns.

If you’re not much of a sweets person and are going to pass on Uncle Rikuro, then surely Horai’s delectable meat buns capture your tastebuds!
